È in fase di pubblicazione il nuovo sito Internet di CEOP-HE (Coordinated Energy and Water Cycle Observation Project-High Elevation) realizzato dalla mia società per il Comitato EV-K2-CNR. Riporto di seguito una breve definizione del progetto, il resto lo potete leggere a questo indirizzo, oppure direttamente sul nuovo sito internet.

CEOP, which is co-chaired by Drs. Toshio Koike and John Roads, coordinates the plans and the focus of scientific issues related to the development and implementation of the Regional Hydroclimate Projects (RHPs) and has oversight over all GEWEX regional hydroclimate and land-surface projects. The principal task of CEOP is to guide these projects in the goal of achieving demonstrable skill in predicting changes in water resources and soil moisture as an integral part of the climate system up to seasonal and annual time scales.

Patrick Volkerding ha annunciato che lo sviluppo della nuova versione di Slackware è entrato nella fase di candidate release: “OK, we’re going to call this Slackware 12.1-rc1, though there is still some more minor work to do. Please help test! And if we’re missing anything major, please let me know. Thanks.” La lista dei changelog più recenti include alcuni security fix per CUPS e altri aggiornamenti minori.

La Slackware “current” adotta il kernel Linux 2.6.24.4, glibc 2.7 e GCC 4.2.3. Il desktop di default è KDE 3.5.9 mentre la versione di Xorg scelta è la 1.5. Altri software inclusi nella release sono Firefox 2.0.0.13 e Apache 2.2.8. Come di consueto, per le candidate release di Slackware non vengono fornite immagini ISO installabili, anche se si possono trovare le ISO (sia CD che DVD) assolutamente non ufficiali su questo mirror. È sempre possibile creare il proprio DVD Slackware utilizzando il repository dei pacchetti ufficiali, basta seguire queste istruzioni. Happy testing!
